BBC Documentary Tubular Bells : The Mike Oldfield Story

BBC Four is going to broadcast a new one hour documentary called 'Tubular Bells: The Mike Oldfield Story' made by Tigerlily Films on October 11. This was filmed in Mike's studio in Nassau where he demonstrated playing multiple instruments from Tubular Bells and showed how it was put together. Two trailers are available.

Hergest Ridge

A 25-minute video inspired by Hergest Ridge was produced by film students as a "pilot" for a complete album-length version, which was never made. In the story, a young woman climbs a hill (encountering the glider and dog as seen on the album cover), and finds some unpleasant things along the way. 〜Amarok〜

Decoded from SQ Quad, this DVD-Audio/Video features the original Quadraphonic Mix of the 1976 "BOXED" 4LP set: TUBULAR BELLS (1973) / HERGEST RIDGE (1974) / OMMADAWN (1975) / COLLABORATIONS (Compilation 1974-76) Source: BOXED 3CD set (initial pressing 1989). The decoding process was done by using a specialized Adobe Audition 3 script, that was developed by some nice guys at the quadraphonicquad.com forum. The overall fidelity was later improved by Cedar Cambridge 5 (phase correction, emphasizing and slight noise reduction). A close comparison to the Tubular Bells SACD showed only little aberrations in localisation and sound. All processing done at 24 bit, 44.1 KHz resolution. DVD-Audio: MLP 24 bit. DVD-Video (mirrored): Dolby Digital 16 bit, 320 KB/s.
